A Suggestion

The glow of the lamps cannot obscure
the gray of the clouds moving across the sky
hour after hour of the  relentless downpour
only intensifies the storm
increasing the power of the wind

The branches that should have been cut down
long ago but weren’t scrape against the pane with increased regularity
a large branch is threatening  to come into the room
of the house uninvited  so I glower outside at the downpour
my gloom and the darkness in the room appear to last forever

With a mind of their own my eyes behold a sight
of a mound of dirt filled in by weeds and dead leaves
only beneath the pile is rich with seeds that are asleep
and struggling not to drown in the waters runoff

Waiting for tomorrow and the sun
to come out and do its job
to help the seeds sprout and bloom
into the pretty red and orange flowers  known as Million bells,
Alstroemeria, California False Indigo and Daffodil
